Phoenix Reisen has announced it is selling Albatros to a Middle-Eastern hotel firm as it looks to cut costs and adapt to the changes of COVID-19.
Albatros has been sold to Egyptian hotel group Pick Albatros Group which operates more than 15 hotels in Egypt. Their plan will see the ship relocated to the Red Sea to be used as a floating hotel and events ship.
The ship is due to begin the voyage to Egypt from Bremerhaven on 19 October. Recently her Fred. Olsen sister ships Boudicca and Black Watch, which all once sailed for Royal Viking Line, were sold to a Turkish company to become accommodation ships for shipyard workers.
Customers who have cruises booked on Albatros will receive further information and offers for alternative trips in the next few days. Some of the ship’s routes will also be taken over by Amadea in the 2021 summer season.
