The German cruise operator, AIDA, has successfully completed the extensive modernisation of AIDAdiva, the first of seven ships slated for transformation under its “Evolution” programme. Following a seven-week dry dock period at the Chantier Naval Shipyard in Marseille, France, from 3 February to 21 March 2025, AIDAdiva has emerged with significant enhancements across its technology, staterooms, dining venues, and entertainment offerings.
“As part of our AIDA Evolution initiative for the future, we have launched the largest fleet modernisation program in our company’s history. For the first three dry dock overhauls alone, we are investing hundreds of millions of euros to make our ships fit for the future – both in terms of the travel experience and the technology. We are very proud of this program. It shows that AIDA continues to evolve – for our guests and the future of cruising,” said Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises.
The transformation involved approximately 300 major projects, with thousands of shipyard workers and specialists, including over 170 fit-out companies, collaborating alongside the AIDAdiva crew. The refurbishment focused on providing a fresh “AIDA feeling” in the guest areas.
A key element of the renovation was the comprehensive overhaul of all guest cabins. Redesigned canopies, carpets, and curtains, along with a modern colour palette, have revitalised the staterooms. Balcony cabins now feature new chairs and sofas. To cater to families, select cabins have been expanded to accommodate four guests, and six new spacious family suites with private sun decks have been added at the ship’s stern. These suites offer separate living and sleeping areas, with some accommodating up to five guests plus a baby cot. Suite guests also enjoy exclusive access to the Sky Deck and Rossini Lounge.

Decks 9, 10, and 11 have undergone a significant redesign, featuring new restaurant and bar concepts. The culinary offerings have been expanded to include French specialities at the new French Kiss restaurant and bar, Asian cuisine at East Fusion, Spanish snacks at the Tapas Bar, and maritime delicacies at the Yachtclub Restaurant. New bars like the Panorama Bar, Ice Bar, Tokyo Bar, and Lanai Bar have also been introduced. The refurbishment included the replacement or refurbishment of all furniture, and the restocking of 35,000 glasses, 30,000 cups and plates, and 46,000 pieces of cutlery.
The Theatrium has been updated with inviting seating, including backrests around the stage on deck 9, and a revised colour scheme. State-of-the-art sound, lighting, and stage control technology have been installed for an enhanced show experience. The spa area has been completely renovated and adapted to an organic spa concept, featuring two new wellness suites and a redesigned hair and nail spa. A new fun park on deck 14, complete with a 7.5-metre climbing tower, slide, and caves, has been created for children, alongside a redesigned Kids Club.

In addition to the guest area enhancements, numerous technical and sustainable measures have been implemented. This includes the reuse of over 45,700 square meters of carpet, the installation of a new reverse osmosis system, and the implementation of a Solid Waste Processor. A new biocide-free paint has been applied to the underwater hull, and an energy-efficient LED lighting system has been installed. The ship’s IT infrastructure has also been redesigned, involving the laying of 50 kilometres of new cables and the replacement of 22 tons of electronics.
“AIDAdiva’s first voyage after its modernisation is an important milestone for us in the radical modernization of the fleet at AIDA Cruises. AIDAluna will follow this year and AIDAbella at the beginning of 2026. Over the past seven weeks, as well as throughout the pre-planning phase, many thousands of dedicated shipyard workers and specialists have worked hand in hand on this project. My special thanks go to our great team and the entire AIDAdiva crew, who led the first Evolution shipyard time to success,” says Felix Eichhorn.

AIDAdiva’s comeback will be celebrated with a special premiere cruise from March 23rd to 30th, 2025, featuring a performance by star guest Clueso. The ship will then embark on Mediterranean voyages before transitioning to Baltic Sea and Norwegian itineraries. In late 2025, AIDAdiva will commence a 133-day world cruise.
