A woman was seriously injured after falling from a bridge and landing on top of a passing river cruise ship.

The Gelderlander newspaper reports that the woman fell from the Waal bridge located at Nijmegen, in the Netherlands, just after 11 a.m. local time.

She landed on the top deck of a passing river cruise ship, A-Rosa Flora, as it made its way from Amsterdam to Cologne.

The Captain saw the woman fall and immediately turned the ship around and berthed at the side of the river, where paramedics were waiting to treat the injured woman. The woman was rushed to hospital.

Police believe she may have been trying to commit suicide. No passengers were on the outer decks at the time of the incident.
