A Fort Lauderdale homeowner has uploaded a video which shows Celebrity Equinox incredibly close to shore during a recent departure from Port Everglades, Florida.
In the video, which was filmed on March 3, Bill Todhunter, can be seen looking concerned as the giant cruise ship drifts dangerously close to the shore and his home.
The ship then comes to a stop as the powerful bow thrusters have difficulty moving the ship away from the shallow shore.
“I was inside the house and took a picture,” Yasmine Todhunter, who filmed the event unfold, said to Cruise Capital. “I went into a panic not knowing about my husband and dogs whereabouts. I since have had major nightmares and have been very worried about the ships leaving the Port.”
Celebrity Equinox managed to move away from the shallow water, and continued its departure towards the Caribbean as scheduled.
In a statement, Celebrity Cruises, said: “As Equinox departed on Friday, March 3, she was in her assigned channel at all times under the guidance of specialised local port pilots. The ship operated safely and did not put guests or crew at risk. We can also confirm the ship did not touch bottom.”
