A tender boat has fallen off Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Balmoral as the ship was docked in Funchal, Madeira.
A malfunction with a winch, caused tender 12 to drop unexpectedly during a crew safety drill. No one was onboard the tender at the time and no one is injured.
In a statement, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines explained:
“Fred. Olsen conducts regular comprehensive safety drills across its fleet to ensure the resilience of its safety procedures and equipment. Once the cause of this incident has been ascertained, safety procedures will be improved further across the Fred. Olsen fleet to prevent a recurrence.”
The winches were independently surveyed in December 2015 and no issues were found at the time.
