Tour operator Scenic, which operates river cruises and escorted tours, has announced detailed plans to start offering ocean cruises.
The yacht-like ship, Scenic Eclipse, will launch in August 2018, with the option for a second to follow in June 2019. The ship will offer discovery cruises onboard a luxury ship sailing to polar regions.
The ship was designed by Scenic’s COO, Glen Moroney, and took three years to design.
Onboard, Scenic Eclipse will offer six dining options – hosting a range of Pan-Asian, French and Italian cuisine – four lounges as well as a large spa. The ship will be equipped with an underwater seven-seat submarine, two helicopters and a fleet of kayaks and zodiacs.
Scenic Eclipse will offer spacious accommodation in 114 suites. The 16,500 gross tonne vessel will also feature a 240-seat theatre and heated pools with a retractable roof.
The ship will be built in Croatia, with Scenic Eclipse’s maiden voyage departing Istanbul on August 31, 2018. The ship will then sail to Venice. The ship will also visit Canada, Iceland, the Arctic, the British Isles, the Caribbean, Cuba and Antarctica.
