Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced its two new expedition ships will be called HANSEATIC nature and HANSEATIC inspiration.
Set to launch in April and October 2019, respectively, the expedition ships will accommodate 23o guests, offer three restaurants, an extensive wellness and fitness area, and a water sports marina, along with 16 Zodiacs, and eco-Zodiacs.
“The potential in the expedition ship segment is more than three times higher than supply,” said Karl J. Pojer, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. “By virtue of the comfort and luxuriousness of our state-of-the-art new vessels, we will appeal to even more customers in the luxury segment in future. At the same time, authentic, natural spectacles that convey the feeling of a personal expedition have always been the basis for our decision-making.”
A revolutionary feature that will be found on the new ships will be a retractable glass-floored viewing area, which extends over the sides of the ships. The ships will also feature IR ice detectors, which will make it possible to spot ice at night and in misty conditions. The new vessels will also be fitted with a device to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by almost 95 per cent.
