The former P&O cruise ship Spirit of London has capsized off the coast of Thailand.

According to Thai PBS, the ship, now named Ocean Dream, was seen taking in water by fishermen who immediately contacted authorities.

The ship later capsized and currently remains partially submerged. The local authorities are monitoring the wreck for any oil leaks and water pollution.

The 1972-built ship, which also sailed with Princess Cruises as Sun Princess, had been anchored in the Gulf of Siam for over a year after its Chinese owners abandoned it. The local authorities contacted the shipowner several times, asking to remove the vessel from Thailand waters, but without any response.

It is still unclear why the ship sank, but authorities have begun an investigation and will be opening a lawsuit against the shipowner for the costs of wreck removal.
