Genting Hong Kong, Crystal Cruises’ parent company, has entered into an agreement to purchase the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven.
The deal will see Genting Hong Kong invest 17.5 million euros for 70% of the new shipbuilding business and a 50% ownership of the shipyard’s land.
Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genting Hong Kong, commented:
“Lloyd Werft has built and lengthened six of the ships owned by an affiliate of the company and has the expertise to build a series of world class cruise ships for the company, which will include the ‘Exclusive Class’ vessels for Crystal Cruises, the world’s most awarded luxury cruise line. Ownership in Lloyd Werft will enable Genting Hong Kong to leverage on the shipyard’s technical expertise and their well-established and long track record in the shipbuilding industry.”
Responsible for building such ships as Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America, Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun as well as refurbishments for ships such as the legendary Queen Elizabeth 2 and Swan Hellenic’s Minerva. The shipyard will also build Crystal Cruises’ new 100,000 gross ton ships, with the first ship due to launch in 2018.
