A cruise passenger has been sentenced to two years in prison after attacking a teenage boy aboard Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas in 2015.
Orlando’s Sun Sentital reports that 33-year-old, Ohio resident, Jason Lawson, was charged with child abuse and false imprisonment for refusing to let a 13-year-old boy leave the library onboard the ship on August 16, 2015.
Lawson’s 31-year-old brother-in-law, Arthuro Martinez, overheard the boy offer Lawson’s daughter a “key chain for her virginity.”
Prosecutors in Broward County, Florida said Lawson did nothing in 2015 to stop Martinez when he began forcing the boy to pull down his pants. Lawson apologised several times during the trial, and was embarrassed by his behaviour, but showed no remorse to the victim.
Martinez has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He is due in court on April 6.
