Competition Winner Names Hurtigruten’s New Ship MS Spitsbergen

Hurtigruten has announced that their new ship, launching in May 2016, will be named MS Spitsbergen. Back in July, Hurtigruten asked social media followers to name their new expedition ship, for the chance to win a voyage onboard. Competition winner, Erlend Baldersheim, was the person who suggested the name and he will be among the first to experience the new ship.

From May 2016, MS Spitsbergen will sail along the Norwegian coast, making regular calls into Bergen, Ålesund, Geiranger, Trondheim, Lofoten Islands, Tromsø and Kirkenes. MS Spitsbergen will sail parallel to classic ship MS Lofoten.

The new ship is to be comfortable and modern and will offer a wide range of excursions and interesting lectures from the professional expedition team onboard.
